Voigtländer’s Nokton Classic 35mm F/1.4 is now available for pre-order in Nikon Z and Canon RF mounts through B&H Photo. The lens was first teased at CP+ 2026 in February and expands the company’s distinctive “Classic” series beyond the Sony E mount, where it has been available since 2018.

Rather than pursuing maximum optical perfection, the Nokton Classic 35mm F/1.4 is designed to deliver a vintage-inspired rendering with subtle optical imperfections that give images a softer, more characterful look.

Designed for Classic Rendering

As its name suggests, the Nokton Classic prioritizes image character over clinical sharpness. While the optical design controls spherical aberrations to maintain good overall sharpness, Voigtländer intentionally leaves certain optical characteristics uncorrected to produce its signature classic rendering.

The optical formula consists of eight elements in six groups, including one high-refractive-index element. A 10-bladed aperture diaphragm helps create smooth, rounded bokeh for portraits and atmospheric everyday photography.

Fully Manual With Electronic Communication

Like many of Voigtländer’s premium lenses, the Nokton Classic 35mm F/1.4 is fully manual focus and features a precision-machined all-metal helicoid designed to provide smooth, tactile focusing.

The lens focuses as close as 0.27m and offers a maximum magnification of 1:5.47, making it capable of tighter close-up compositions than many traditional rangefinder-inspired lenses.

Although manual focus only, the lens includes electronic contacts that allow communication with compatible camera bodies. This enables EXIF data transmission along with support for focus magnification, in-body image stabilization, and in-camera lens correction profiles.

Small Differences Between Nikon and Canon Versions

The Nikon Z and Canon RF versions are largely identical but feature slightly different exterior designs.

The Nikon Z model retains the scalloped focusing ring found on the Sony E version, while the Canon RF version uses a diamond-knurled focusing ring.

The Canon RF lens measures 37.6mm in length and weighs 260g, while the Nikon Z version is slightly longer at 41.6mm and weighs 250g. Both versions accept standard 58mm filters and include a screw-on metal lens hood.

The Voigtländer Nokton Classic 35mm F/1.4 for Nikon Z and Canon RF mounts is available now for pre-order through B&H Photo for $699.

The Sony E mount version remains available and is currently selling for $599.
