Sony may not be slowing down after the launch of the Alpha A7R VI. According to multiple reports, the company is preparing to unveil two new cameras this month, including a long-awaited bridge camera and a new addition to its Cinema Line.

Rumor sites suggest Sony will announce the RX10 V in early July, followed later in the month by a new cinema camera that is widely believed to be the Sony FX5.

As with all pre-release reports, these details remain unconfirmed and should be treated as rumors until Sony makes an official announcement.

Sony FX5 Rumored to Bring 5K Open Gate Recording

According to Sony Alpha Rumors, Sony is expected to announce the FX5 sometime in mid-July. The report has also been backed by reliable leaker Camera Insider, although the latter referred to the camera as the FX4, leading to some confusion over the final product name.

Early rumors suggest the camera could feature a new 16-megapixel fully stacked global shutter sensor capable of recording 5K video at up to 240fps, along with 5K 3:2 open gate recording. Reports also claim the camera will feature full-sensor phase-detection autofocus.

If accurate, open gate recording would mark a notable shift for Sony’s Cinema Line.

“On multiple occasions, Sony managers said they didn’t believe it was a feature users really needed,” Sony Alpha Rumors writes. “But it looks like they’ve finally changed their mind: the upcoming Sony FX5 is expected to feature full open gate support. Specifically I have been told the camera has open gate 5K 3:2 support!”

While none of these specifications have been confirmed, open gate recording has become increasingly common among competing hybrid and cinema cameras from Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, and Blackmagic Design.

Sony RX10 V Could Finally Replace the RX10 IV

The second rumored announcement is the long-awaited Sony RX10 V, which multiple reports suggest will debut on July 9.

According to The New Camera and Sony Alpha Rumors, the new bridge camera will replace the RX10 IV, which was introduced nearly nine years ago.

Rumored specifications include a 20.1-megapixel stacked 1-inch Exmor RS sensor paired with a ZEISS 24-600mm F/2.4-4 integrated zoom lens and the BIONZ XR 2 image processor. The camera is expected to support up to 24fps continuous shooting and offer video recording at 4K60p and 4K120p. Additional features are said to include a 0.39-inch OLED electronic viewfinder, a 3-inch tilting LCD, and the use of the NP-FW50 battery with improved power efficiency.

If these specifications prove accurate, the RX10 V would represent a significant refresh for Sony’s premium all-in-one camera lineup while retaining the versatile superzoom design that has made the RX10 series popular with wildlife, sports, and travel photographers.

Pricing and Availability

Current rumors suggest the Sony RX10 V will be announced on July 9, 2026, with an expected retail price between $1,899 and $1,999.

The rumored Sony FX5 is expected to arrive later in mid-July, although pricing has yet to surface.

Until Sony makes an official announcement, all specifications, launch dates, and pricing should be considered speculative.
