Godox C100 Brings a Minimalist Shooting Experience With Transparent Screen

Godox has introduced an unusual new compact digital camera aimed at photographers looking for a simpler shooting experience. The new Godox C100 replaces the conventional LCD display with a transparent viewfinder-style screen, making composition the primary focus while keeping camera controls minimal.

The C100 joins a growing trend of fun, minimalist digital cameras such as the Kodak Charmera and Insta360 Go 3S Retro that prioritize the shooting experience over advanced specifications.

A Transparent Display Instead of a Traditional Screen

While Godox refers to it as a transparent viewfinder, the display is essentially a large semi-transparent window that lets photographers compose their images while simultaneously viewing key shooting information.

The display offers more than 50% light transmittance, allowing users to see the scene through the screen while overlaying information such as shooting mode, battery status, ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. Frame lines also adjust automatically to match the selected aspect ratio.

Rather than encouraging users to review every image immediately, the interface is designed to keep attention on composition and capturing the moment.

“The C100 is born to record! No complicated operations are required. Take photos or record videos anytime, anywhere, and capture everyday moments at will. Simplicity is fun,” Godox says.

Automatic Exposure and Film Camera Companion

Despite its minimalist appearance, the C100 includes automatic metering that measures scene brightness and adjusts exposure settings accordingly.

Users can choose between multiple image aspect ratios, including 16:9, 4:3, 3:2, and 1:1.

An interesting addition is its film-camera companion mode. Photographers can manually set an ISO value to match the film loaded in a film camera, and the C100 will calculate the appropriate aperture and shutter speed for the scene. Users can also prioritize either aperture or shutter speed while the camera automatically adjusts the remaining exposure setting, similar to Aperture Priority or Shutter Priority modes.

Compact and Lightweight Design

The C100 measures just 104 × 72 × 19mm and weighs only 65g, making it small enough to slip into a pocket. The transparent display occupies much of the front of the camera and measures 60.8 × 47.8mm.

The camera features a built-in rechargeable battery that provides up to 1.5 hours of continuous video recording. Storage is handled through a TF (microSD) card slot supporting cards up to 128GB.

For transferring files, the C100 connects directly to smartphones via its USB-C port using OTG file transfer.

Pricing and Availability

The Godox C100 is currently listed only on Godox’s Chinese website and is priced at ¥199, or roughly $29 at current exchange rates.
