Rumor sites suggest Sony will announce the RX10 V in early July, followed later in the month by a new cinema camera that is widely believed to be the Sony FX5.

As with all pre-release reports, these details remain unconfirmed and should be treated as rumors until Sony makes an official announcement.

Sony FX5 Rumored to Bring 5K Open Gate Recording

According to Sony Alpha Rumors, Sony is expected to announce the FX5 sometime in mid-July. The report has also been backed by reliable leaker Camera Insider, although the latter referred to the camera as the FX4, leading to some confusion over the final product name.

Early rumors suggest the camera could feature a new 16-megapixel fully stacked global shutter sensor capable of recording 5K video at up to 240fps, along with 5K 3:2 open gate recording. Reports also claim the camera will feature full-sensor phase-detection autofocus.

If accurate, open gate recording would mark a notable shift for Sony’s Cinema Line.

“On multiple occasions, Sony managers said they didn’t believe it was a feature users really needed,” Sony Alpha Rumors writes. “But it looks like they’ve finally changed their mind: the upcoming Sony FX5 is expected to feature full open gate support. Specifically I have been told the camera has open gate 5K 3:2 support!”

While none of these specifications have been confirmed, open gate recording has become increasingly common among competing hybrid and cinema cameras from Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, and Blackmagic Design.

Sony RX10 V Could Finally Replace the RX10 IV

The second rumored announcement is the long-awaited Sony RX10 V, which multiple reports suggest will debut on July 9.

According to The New Camera and Sony Alpha Rumors, the new bridge camera will replace the RX10 IV, which was introduced nearly nine years ago.

Rumored specifications include a 20.1-megapixel stacked 1-inch Exmor RS sensor paired with a ZEISS 24-600mm F/2.4-4 integrated zoom lens and the BIONZ XR 2 image processor. The camera is expected to support up to 24fps continuous shooting and offer video recording at 4K60p and 4K120p. Additional features are said to include a 0.39-inch OLED electronic viewfinder, a 3-inch tilting LCD, and the use of the NP-FW50 battery with improved power efficiency.

Although manual focus only, the lens includes electronic contacts that allow communication with compatible camera bodies. This enables EXIF data transmission along with support for focus magnification, in-body image stabilization, and in-camera lens correction profiles.

Small Differences Between Nikon and Canon Versions

The Nikon Z and Canon RF versions are largely identical but feature slightly different exterior designs.

The Nikon Z model retains the scalloped focusing ring found on the Sony E version, while the Canon RF version uses a diamond-knurled focusing ring.

The Canon RF lens measures 37.6mm in length and weighs 260g, while the Nikon Z version is slightly longer at 41.6mm and weighs 250g. Both versions accept standard 58mm filters and include a screw-on metal lens hood.

With its arrival on Nikon and Canon systems, APS-C photographers now have another fast all-around zoom option for everything from travel and landscapes to events and portraits.

A Versatile Standard Zoom for APS-C Cameras

On Nikon DX cameras, the lens provides a 25.5-105mm full-frame equivalent focal length, while Canon APS-C users get an equivalent range of approximately 27.2-112mm due to Canon’s 1.6x crop factor.

That versatile range covers wide-angle through short telephoto, making it well suited for travel, street photography, landscapes, portraits, events, and everyday shooting.

The Canon RF version is particularly noteworthy because Canon currently does not offer a native APS-C standard zoom with a constant F/2.8 aperture. The C100 joins a growing trend of fun, minimalist digital cameras such as the Kodak Charmera and Insta360 Go 3S Retro that prioritize the shooting experience over advanced specifications.

A Transparent Display Instead of a Traditional Screen

While Godox refers to it as a transparent viewfinder, the display is essentially a large semi-transparent window that lets photographers compose their images while simultaneously viewing key shooting information.

The display offers more than 50% light transmittance, allowing users to see the scene through the screen while overlaying information such as shooting mode, battery status, ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. Frame lines also adjust automatically to match the selected aspect ratio.

Rather than encouraging users to review every image immediately, the interface is designed to keep attention on composition and capturing the moment.

Automatic Exposure and Film Camera Companion

Despite its minimalist appearance, the C100 includes automatic metering that measures scene brightness and adjusts exposure settings accordingly.

Users can choose between multiple image aspect ratios, including 16:9, 4:3, 3:2, and 1:1.

An interesting addition is its film-camera companion mode. Photographers can manually set an ISO value to match the film loaded in a film camera, and the C100 will calculate the appropriate aperture and shutter speed for the scene. Users can also prioritize either aperture or shutter speed while the camera automatically adjusts the remaining exposure setting, similar to Aperture Priority or Shutter Priority modes.

Compact and Lightweight Design

The C100 measures just 104 × 72 × 19mm and weighs only 65g, making it small enough to slip into a pocket. The transparent display occupies much of the front of the camera and measures 60.8 × 47.8mm.

The camera features a built-in rechargeable battery that provides up to 1.5 hours of continuous video recording. Storage is handled through a TF (microSD) card slot supporting cards up to 128GB.

For transferring files, the C100 connects directly to smartphones via its USB-C port using OTG file transfer.

The Godox C100 is currently listed only on Godox’s Chinese website and is priced at ¥199, or roughly $29 at current exchange rates.

The lens focuses as close as 0.68 meters, allowing photographers to capture tighter portrait compositions and close-up details. A 12-bladed aperture diaphragm produces smooth out-of-focus backgrounds while also creating 12-point sunstars when the lens is stopped down.

Premium Construction

The AF 135mm F/1.8 MAX features a full-metal barrel machined from aviation-grade aluminum and includes weather sealing to help protect against dust and moisture. The front element is treated with an anti-smudge coating for easier cleaning in the field.

The lens measures 130mm in length, weighs approximately 1,014g, and accepts standard 82mm front filters.

For handling, 7Artisans includes a clicked aperture ring, dual customizable function buttons, an AF/MF switch, and a textured grip for improved ergonomics. A built-in USB-C port also allows users to install future firmware updates.

The AF 60-180mm F/2.8 features an optical design consisting of 17 elements in 14 groups, including one high-refractive-index element, seven extra-low dispersion elements, and two aspherical elements. The lens also incorporates a floating focus system, which is designed to maintain consistent image quality throughout the zoom range and at closer focusing distances. 

Autofocus is driven by a Linear Stepping Motor, which Samyang says delivers fast, accurate, and quiet focusing for both still photography and video recording. The maximum magnification of 0.26x (1:3.8) also allows photographers to capture tighter close-up compositions without switching lenses.

The lens also includes a customizable Focus Hold button, an AF/MF switch, and a Zoom Lock to prevent unwanted lens extension during transport. A built-in USB-C port allows users to install future firmware updates directly to the lens.

These features make the lens suitable for hybrid creators who regularly switch between photography and video work.

Lightweight Alternative to a 70-200mm

One of the biggest selling points of the AF 60-180mm F/2.8 is its compact design.

Alongside the camera, Leica also announced two new L-mount lenses: the Summilux-SL 50mm F/1.4 ASPH and the APO-Macro-Elmarit-SL 100mm F/2.8, further expanding the company’s premium autofocus lens lineup.

A New 44MP Sensor and Hybrid Autofocus

At the heart of the SL3-P is a newly developed 44-megapixel back-side illuminated full-frame sensor. Leica says the sensor strikes a balance between resolution, dynamic range, and low-light performance, offering up to 14 stops of dynamic range and a native ISO range of 50 to 200,000.

The camera also introduces a new hybrid autofocus system that combines phase detection, depth mapping, and contrast detection autofocus. Leica says the system uses 819 autofocus points with intelligent subject recognition and tracking, allowing continuous shooting at up to 40 frames per second with autofocus enabled.

Built for Professional Video Production

Video is another major focus of the SL3-P.

The camera supports recording in 8.1K Open Gate (3:2) at up to 24fps, HDMI RAW 8K Open Gate output at up to 30fps, 5.9K recording at up to 60fps, and 4K video at up to 120fps. Apple ProRes recording is also supported at resolutions up to 5.8K.

Leica has also added two built-in LUTs—Leica Pure and Leica Cine—for footage recorded in L-Log. These provide different starting points for color grading while maintaining flexibility for professional post-production workflows.

Familiar Leica Design

Externally, the SL3-P follows Leica’s minimalist design philosophy and omits the iconic red Leica badge for a cleaner appearance.

The camera body is constructed from solid metal and carries an IP54 rating for protection against dust and water splashes. Like other SL cameras, it uses the L-Mount Alliance system, giving photographers access to a broad selection of lenses from Leica, Sigma, Panasonic, and other alliance partners.

Summilux-SL 50mm F/1.4 ASPH

Joining the new camera is the Leica Summilux-SL 50mm F/1.4 ASPH, which Leica describes as its most compact autofocus 50mm F/1.4 lens for the SL system.

The lens features an optical design incorporating eleven aperture blades, two aspherical elements, and specially selected glass types designed to deliver Leica’s signature rendering and smooth out-of-focus areas.

Built with a full-metal barrel, the lens measures 75.5mm in length, weighs 584g, and carries an IP54 weather-resistance rating. Leica’s AquaDura coating also helps protect the front element from moisture and dirt.

APO-Macro-Elmarit-SL 100mm F/2.8

Leica also introduced the APO-Macro-Elmarit-SL 100mm F/2.8, inspired by the classic APO-Macro-Elmarit-R 100mm F/2.8 from 1987.

The new lens features an apochromatic optical design aimed at minimizing chromatic aberration while delivering high levels of sharpness and contrast. Its 100mm focal length also makes it suitable for portraits in addition to close-up photography.

The full-metal lens measures 137.6mm in length and weighs 862g, including the supplied lens hood. It also features Leica’s AquaDura coating and accepts standard 67mm filters.

Pricing and Availability

The Leica SL3-P is available now worldwide with a suggested retail price of $6,690. To mark the launch, Leica is also offering three camera kits: the SL3-P 28–70 Vario Kit priced at $7,790, the SL3-P 24–70 Vario Kit priced at $8,390, and the SL3-P 24–70 & 70–200 Vario Kit priced at $10,995.

The Leica Summilux-SL 50mm F/1.4 ASPH and APO-Macro-Elmarit-SL 100mm F/2.8 are expected to become available worldwide through Leica Stores, the Leica Online Store, and authorized dealers at the end of 2026.

The Summilux-SL 50mm F/1.4 ASPH is priced at $4,950, while the APO-Macro-Elmarit-SL 100mm F/2.8 will retail for $2,700.
