DJI Officially Launches the Osmo Pocket 4P in China
After months of teasers and a brief appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, DJI has officially unveiled the Osmo Pocket 4P in China. The new premium pocket gimbal camera introduces a dual-camera system for the first time in the series and takes direct aim at competitors such as the recently launched Insta360 Luna Ultra.
The Osmo Pocket 4P builds on the foundation of the standard Pocket 4 while adding a dedicated telephoto camera, improved dynamic range, and a range of creator-focused features.
Dual Cameras Come to the Pocket Series
The headline feature of the Osmo Pocket 4P is its new dual-camera module, which combines a wide-angle main camera with a dedicated telephoto lens.
This marks the first time DJI has added a second camera to its pocket-sized gimbal lineup. The move mirrors a growing trend in compact creator cameras, giving users more flexibility for framing, portraits, and distant subjects.
1-Inch Main Camera With Improved Dynamic Range
The primary camera uses a 1-inch CMOS sensor paired with a 20mm equivalent F/2.0 lens. This is the same basic camera hardware found in the standard Osmo Pocket 4.
However, DJI says the Pocket 4P delivers up to 17 stops of dynamic range, a notable improvement over the 14 stops offered by the base model. The additional dynamic range should help preserve more detail in highlights and shadows when shooting high-contrast scenes.
Dedicated 60mm Portrait Lens
The secondary camera features a 1/1.28-inch sensor paired with a 60mm equivalent F/1.8 lens.
DJI describes the 60mm focal length as a “golden portrait focal length” due to its ability to render faces naturally while providing stronger background separation than a wide-angle lens.
The telephoto camera offers 3x optical zoom, 6x lossless zoom, and up to 12x digital zoom. The added reach makes the Pocket 4P more versatile for portraits, interviews, concerts, sporting events, and other situations where getting physically closer to the subject may not be possible.
The telephoto camera is rated for up to 14 stops of dynamic range.
4K240p and D-Log2 Support
Like the standard Pocket 4, the Pocket 4P supports video recording at up to 4K 240fps for slow-motion footage.
The camera can also capture 37-megapixel still images and supports 10-bit recording alongside DJI’s D-Log2 color profile. This provides a flatter image designed for color grading and expanded post-production flexibility.
For creators who prefer ready-to-share footage, DJI includes six built-in film-style color profiles as well as an in-camera skin-smoothing feature aimed at social media content creation.
Advanced Tracking and Stabilization
The Osmo Pocket 4P retains DJI’s signature 3-axis mechanical gimbal system for smooth handheld footage.
It also features ActiveTrack 8.0, allowing the camera to automatically track subjects and keep them framed during recording. The combination of mechanical stabilization and intelligent subject tracking continues to be one of the Pocket series’ strongest advantages for solo creators and vloggers.
Fast Charging and Built-In Storage
DJI rates the Pocket 4P’s battery for up to 210 minutes of continuous recording.
The camera supports fast charging and can reach 80% capacity in just 18 minutes, minimizing downtime between shoots.
Storage has also been upgraded, with 103GB of built-in internal memory available. For file transfers, the Pocket 4P supports USB 3.1 speeds of up to 800MB/s as well as Wi-Fi 6 wireless transfers at up to 90MB/s.
Accessories and Color Options
The Osmo Pocket 4P will be available in both Black and Pearl White finishes.
DJI is also launching a range of accessories for the camera, including an ND filter kit, fill light, beauty soft-focus mirror, and the new Osmo FrameTap remote viewfinder.
These accessories expand the camera’s capabilities and help position it as a more complete content creation platform.
Pricing and Availability
The DJI Osmo Pocket 4P is priced at 3,799 yuan, which converts to approximately $560 at current exchange rates. That places it roughly $118 above the standard Osmo Pocket 4 while still undercutting the Insta360 Luna Ultra, which currently retails for $769.99.
The Osmo Pocket 4P is available now through DJI’s online store and authorized retailers in China. A global launch is expected in the coming weeks.
Availability in the United States remains uncertain, however, as DJI continues to face regulatory hurdles and FCC-related restrictions affecting the release of new products in the U.S. market.
