The Osmo Pocket 4P builds on the foundation of the standard Pocket 4 while adding a dedicated telephoto camera, improved dynamic range, and a range of creator-focused features.

Dual Cameras Come to the Pocket Series

The headline feature of the Osmo Pocket 4P is its new dual-camera module, which combines a wide-angle main camera with a dedicated telephoto lens.

This marks the first time DJI has added a second camera to its pocket-sized gimbal lineup. The move mirrors a growing trend in compact creator cameras, giving users more flexibility for framing, portraits, and distant subjects.

1-Inch Main Camera With Improved Dynamic Range

The primary camera uses a 1-inch CMOS sensor paired with a 20mm equivalent F/2.0 lens. This is the same basic camera hardware found in the standard Osmo Pocket 4.

However, DJI says the Pocket 4P delivers up to 17 stops of dynamic range, a notable improvement over the 14 stops offered by the base model. The additional dynamic range should help preserve more detail in highlights and shadows when shooting high-contrast scenes.

Dedicated 60mm Portrait Lens

The secondary camera features a 1/1.28-inch sensor paired with a 60mm equivalent F/1.8 lens.

DJI describes the 60mm focal length as a “golden portrait focal length” due to its ability to render faces naturally while providing stronger background separation than a wide-angle lens.

The telephoto camera offers 3x optical zoom, 6x lossless zoom, and up to 12x digital zoom. The added reach makes the Pocket 4P more versatile for portraits, interviews, concerts, sporting events, and other situations where getting physically closer to the subject may not be possible.

The telephoto camera is rated for up to 14 stops of dynamic range.

4K240p and D-Log2 Support

Like the standard Pocket 4, the Pocket 4P supports video recording at up to 4K 240fps for slow-motion footage.

The camera can also capture 37-megapixel still images and supports 10-bit recording alongside DJI’s D-Log2 color profile. This provides a flatter image designed for color grading and expanded post-production flexibility.

For creators who prefer ready-to-share footage, DJI includes six built-in film-style color profiles as well as an in-camera skin-smoothing feature aimed at social media content creation.

Advanced Tracking and Stabilization

The Osmo Pocket 4P retains DJI’s signature 3-axis mechanical gimbal system for smooth handheld footage.

It also features ActiveTrack 8.0, allowing the camera to automatically track subjects and keep them framed during recording. The combination of mechanical stabilization and intelligent subject tracking continues to be one of the Pocket series’ strongest advantages for solo creators and vloggers.

Fast Charging and Built-In Storage

DJI rates the Pocket 4P’s battery for up to 210 minutes of continuous recording.

The camera supports fast charging and can reach 80% capacity in just 18 minutes, minimizing downtime between shoots.

Storage has also been upgraded, with 103GB of built-in internal memory available. For file transfers, the Pocket 4P supports USB 3.1 speeds of up to 800MB/s as well as Wi-Fi 6 wireless transfers at up to 90MB/s.

Accessories and Color Options

The Osmo Pocket 4P will be available in both Black and Pearl White finishes.

DJI is also launching a range of accessories for the camera, including an ND filter kit, fill light, beauty soft-focus mirror, and the new Osmo FrameTap remote viewfinder.

These accessories expand the camera’s capabilities and help position it as a more complete content creation platform.

Pricing and Availability

The DJI Osmo Pocket 4P is priced at 3,799 yuan, which converts to approximately $560 at current exchange rates. That places it roughly $118 above the standard Osmo Pocket 4 while still undercutting the Insta360 Luna Ultra, which currently retails for $769.99.

The Osmo Pocket 4P is available now through DJI’s online store and authorized retailers in China. A global launch is expected in the coming weeks.

Availability in the United States remains uncertain, however, as DJI continues to face regulatory hurdles and FCC-related restrictions affecting the release of new products in the U.S. market.

The competing lawsuits represent the latest chapter in an increasingly intense rivalry as DJI and Insta360 continue expanding into each other’s core markets.

DJI Alleges Luna Ultra Copies the Osmo Pocket

DJI was first to take legal action, filing two separate lawsuits against Arashi Vision Inc., the company behind Insta360.

The first lawsuit alleges infringement of two DJI design patents. According to DJI, the recently launched Insta360 Luna Pro and Luna Ultra closely resemble the design and functionality of the company’s Osmo Pocket series cameras.

“The Luna line comprises at least two products: the Insta360 Luna Pro and the Insta360 Luna Ultra,” DJI states in its complaint. “According to Insta360’s own promotional materials, product teasers, and demonstrations at the 2026 NAB Show, the Accused Products are handheld gimbal cameras with integrated optics—the same product architecture pioneered by the DJI Osmo Pocket—and Insta360 markets them expressly as competitors to DJI’s Osmo Pocket line.”

DJI claims that several key design elements are protected by its patents, including the elongated handheld body, gimbal-mounted camera system, rotating display, control layout, and accessory interfaces.

DJI sued Insta360 on Luna Ultra’s launch day to ban it from the U.S. market.

The camera still hit #1 on Amazon in 24 hours.

Four Additional Utility Patent Claims

DJI’s second lawsuit targets what it describes as four utility patent violations.

The company alleges that Insta360 infringed patents covering:

• Gimbal mode switching between follow and lock modes
• Integrated subject tracking with on-device monitoring
• Gimbal control systems driven by image-based tracking
• Self-contained subject tracking and display technologies

“Insta360’s new Luna line of gimbal cameras, including but not limited to the Luna Ultra, supporting accessories, and the Insta360 mobile application, blatantly copy DJI’s patented inventions wholesale,” DJI alleges.

Both lawsuits were filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

DJI is seeking a permanent injunction, monetary damages, royalty payments, disgorgement of profits, and enhanced damages for what it describes as willful infringement.

Insta360 Responds With Its Own Lawsuits

Insta360 quickly responded by filing two patent infringement lawsuits of its own against DJI.

The company alleges that DJI products, including the Osmo Pocket series, Ronin and RS gimbals, Osmo Mobile lineup, and Osmo 360 camera, infringe upon five Insta360 utility patents.

According to Insta360, the patents cover technologies related to:

• Gimbal stabilization systems
• Directional gimbal control
• Electronic image stabilization
• Telemetry overlays
• Panoramic video stabilization

“At Insta360, we prefer to let our products do the talking. But we are not afraid of a legal battle when challenged,” said Insta360 founder JK Liu. “We are fully committed to protecting our innovations and will take decisive action to defend our intellectual property from infringement.”

Insta360 Says Timing Is No Coincidence

The company made it clear that its legal action is a direct response to DJI’s lawsuits.

Insta360 argues that DJI’s filings were timed specifically to disrupt the launch of the Luna Ultra, which was officially unveiled this week after months of teasers and speculation.

According to Insta360, DJI’s lawsuits seek an injunction that could potentially block the Luna Ultra from being sold in the United States.

“Luna Ultra is the result of years of independent R&D, not a response to any competitor’s product,” Liu said. “Development began in 2020, with earlier Insta360 products including the ONE R, Link Series webcams, and Flow Series gimbals helping shape the technology and design direction behind Luna Ultra.”

“DJI filing lawsuits on the same day we launched Luna Ultra speaks volumes — exposing their fear of competition from a highly competitive product.”

A Rivalry That Has Been Building for Years

This is not the first legal dispute between the two companies.

DJI previously filed patent infringement claims against Insta360 in China related to 360-degree drone technology. Those lawsuits surfaced shortly before the launch of DJI’s Avata 360, which directly competed with the Antigravity A1, a 360-degree drone developed by an Insta360 subsidiary.

The legal battle reflects a broader competitive shift within the imaging industry.

For years, DJI dominated the drone and gimbal camera markets, while Insta360 established itself as the leading brand in the consumer 360-camera segment. Recently, however, both companies have expanded aggressively into each other’s territories.

Insta360 has moved into drones and gimbal cameras, while DJI has entered the 360-camera market with products aimed directly at Insta360’s core audience.

Another Major Patent Fight for Insta360

The latest dispute comes only months after Insta360 secured a significant legal victory against GoPro.

In February, the U.S. International Trade Commission rejected GoPro’s patent infringement claims against Insta360, allowing the company to continue selling its products without restriction.

Whether the DJI and Insta360 lawsuits ultimately result in settlements, licensing agreements, or courtroom battles remains to be seen. What is clear is that competition between the two companies has reached a new level as both fight for dominance across multiple imaging categories.
